A piece of modern retro gaming history has changed hands, as a functional Intellivision Amico prototype was sold on eBay for $2,200. The console, which was famously never released to the public, was auctioned by a former industry executive.

The rare unit was listed by Klemens Kundratitz, the former CEO of Plaion, the company originally slated to distribute the Amico in Europe. The auction included the console, a functioning controller, a second non-working controller prototype, a unique EU power supply, and sealed limited-edition copies of games like Brain Duel.

According to the listing, when powered on, the console’s signature Running Man button illuminates, and the classic Intellivision logo appears on screen via HDMI. After a brief moment, the mascot animates and a distinct voice says ’Amico.’ The system’s dashboard reportedly includes test applications and games like Farkle.

The seller specified in a message that they would not sell the item to ’haters’ and that they ’still love the idea of the Amico.’ This sale potentially opens a niche market for prototypes of the console, whose intellectual property was later acquired by Atari.
