Tetris is a 1989 NES video game developed by Nintendo R&D1 and released by Nintendo of America in the USA on November 1, 1989. A random sequence of tetrominoes (sometimes called "tetrads" in older versions)—shapes composed of four square blocks each—fall down the playing field (a rectangular vertical shaft, called the "well" or "matrix").
